Back in Europe, the End is near

02. August 2018

Yesterday evening was maybe a bit longer than anticipated, so I set off from Kiev rather late in the morning. Somehow though the Maxi suddenly wasn’t running properly, I ended up checking the ignition 3 times that day, even the airfilter, but I couldn’t really find any issues. Thanks to that I only did about 130kms.

The Guys at rbo.at told me to install a smaller mainjet and that actually solved the issue, but really didn’t make a lot of sense as it shouldn’t have run too rich, but if it works. Anyways since I was already changing the jet I also changed the oil and regreased the chain. The road was in bad shape and to add to this a random bee decided to fly into my shirt while driving and sting me. At least the Hostel only cost me about 4€.

Had an uneventful ride towards Lviv only the driving inside the city was gruesome, tons of blocked roads and deviations combined with the terrible condition of the roads made driving there an attack on your sanity. I did however reach my Hostel in the early afternoon and went for a bit of sightseeing. It is a very european looking city and especially beautiful since the old town center survived the War unscathed and it was spared by soviet city-planners as well, the never parts are typically soviet, but the centre is magnificent.

I decided to stay another day in Lviv, so I just spent the day exploring the city centre.

06. August 2018

In the morning when leaving Lviv I managed to find some more chaingrease and after some nice roads shortly before the border I decided to finally try the Kymyz I had in my bag from Kyrgyzstan still. I figuered I couldn’t bring it into the EU so I better just try it even if it’s probably not good anymore, and not good it was. I took a sip and instantly spat it out, extremely sour with a strong smoke aroma and overall bad taste.

Crossing the border into Poland wasn’t very good either, I first had to wait in the rain and then they wouldn’t handle my entry at the regular post due to my customs form. I ended up having to go through the International Transit/Truck Lane where they explained that I had the wrong form, which in my opinion didn’t matter as I only needed that for Mongolia and just had to get their stamp to prove that it is now back in the EU, since it already is a european vehicle and registered here, no customs necessary. While the customs officials insisted for nearly 30mins that they can’t give me a stamp, it suddenly did appear after another 1h of waiting in front of the customs bureau. Most annoying border crossing of the whole trip confirmed.

After the border I just continued and tried to get as far as possible the remaining day, although my moped started sounding “not very good”, it actually started loudly humming almost screaming, which does happen to those mopeds when they get old, but usually not as loud. I managed to find a hostel in a small town, which was the first floor of an old ladys house, who didn’t speak any english, but it was nice and I got some well deserved rest.

The next morning wasn’t so good either, when leaving I got to know the angry side of my accomodation provider, the lovely old lady suddenly accused me of stealing one of the towels. Which obviously wasn’t true and I explained it to her, especially since I couldn’t fit any of her towels into my luggage. But she insisted and actually wanted to call the police, so as I had no towel I was like: “Yeah sure call them” but eventually she gave in and I could finally leave that house. I then left Poland already and crossed into Slovakia, where this time I spent the night in a Camping Area. The Moped was still sounding not so good or rather like someone was consistently stabbing, and it was squealing for dear life, and I was just left hoping it would make it back home as well as feeling a bit cringey riding a “mobile siren” through those calm little towns.

Another relaxed day of riding through slovakia, trying to stay on small country roads, visited the town of Trencin and found a quiet campingarea where I was the only guest and they even had a swimming pool, that was really a welcome treat. Considering I tried to find a Hostel before but that was full I was actually happy about that.

Zurück in der EU, das Ende naht

02.08.18

03.08.18
